Tom Cruise is back as Maverick with the Top Gun sequel, fans go berserk!
Thirty-three years after we saw Tom Cruise casting his spell on the audience as hotshot fighter pilot Maverick, the actor has taken his fans by surprise by dropping the trailer of its sequel – Top Gun: Maverick which hits theatres in 2020.
Cruise on Thursday surprised Comic Con attendees in San Diego with the trailer launch saying, “I felt it was my responsibility to deliver for you.”
In the trailer, 57 year old Cruise looks supremely handsome flashing his charming smile, trademark sunglasses and bomber jacket as he chases jets on a motorcycle a la the original. The movie also features Val Kilmer as he reprises his role of Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky who is now a commander at the school. Miles Teller plays the all grown-up son of Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw, whom Maverick takes under his wings in the sequel.
Additionally, the movie also stars Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman and Manny Jacinto amongst others. Speaking about the stunts and action, Hamm was quoted as saying in May, “They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen. We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.”
He had further added, “I think it’s gonna be, for the people who love the first movie I think it’s gonna be very interesting to watch. It very much takes the story in a different direction. But I think for the new fans it’s gonna be something very cool, too. I’ve seen some of the footage, it is out of this world.”
