Virat Kohli recounts his first meeting with Anushka Sharma and their dreamy wedding in Italy

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are one of the most high profile couples in the country, but the duo has successfully kept their personal lives away from the media glare. The couple is known to be extremely private and hence we rarely see them talking about each other on a public platform.

Breaking away from his otherwise quiet stance, Virat Kohli recently divulged many details about their life whilst in conversation with an American television presenter, Graham Bensinger. Sharing his first meeting with his now wife, Virat said, “The first time I met her I cracked a joke immediately. I was very nervous and that’s why I cracked a joke because I didn’t know what to do. I was standing on sets and was being all nervous and jittery. I thought I was being funny, and I said something which wasn’t probably the right thing to say. She is tall and she was wearing heels and she was being told that I am not that tall, I am not 6 feet plus or something… she walked in with heels and was looking taller than me and I was like didn’t you get a higher pair of heels.”

He further added, “Then she was like ‘excuse me’ and then I was like ‘no, I am just joking’. My joke became such a weird moment for myself. I was such a fool, to be honest. She was so confident, she is on sets regularly.”

The Indian skipper also revealed why and how they kept their wedding a secret affair. He said, “Wedding was very private. We announced it to our friends and there was a frenzy. There was top security and people had to get in with their cards or you couldn’t enter. So proper top level stuff and then we came to Bombay to do another celebration for her industry friends, my cricketer friends. So across two celebrations after they ended, the next day our families said ‘We are so glad you did it in Italy’. Imagine if the main thing had happened in India. It would have been madness. They couldn’t handle two celebrations and a wedding. That’s when they realised ‘ok, what they did was the right thing’.”
