Saif Ali Khan reveals he offered this piece of advice to daughter Sara Ali Khan post Love Aaj Kal failure
Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan starrer Love Aaj Kal was one of the most anticipated films of 2020. Expectations from the film and the duo were sky high as it was a reboot of sorts to the 2009 hit film of the same name, which starred Sara’s father Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. The romantic-comedy, however, turned out to be a dud, both in terms of box-office and reviews from the critics, with many criticising Sara’s acting in the movie.
In his recent interview with Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra, when Saif was asked about his reaction on the failure of Sara’s last release, the Race actor said, “I did message her and ask if she’s alright. Of course, it’s a romantic and nice fatherly notion (to hold your daughter’s hand through hardships), but I don’t think it’s really needed. I think she’s quite tough and smart and she gets it. And I told her, ‘you have to go through this’.”
The actor also mentioned how Sara is both smart and tough and has not specifically spoken about her film’s failure to him yet. “She hasn’t really talked about it. Parents want to help and they’re there. It’s really something you have to go through on your own… It’s good to have that reality check, anyway. You don’t want to be that kind of movie star who’s never seen success and can’t walk when it finally happens,” he added.
He also spoke about why Sara chose to do the film and said, “You must have liked something, you might have liked someone; the director or the producer. Not much has to go wrong for it to go wrong… You have to keep working through it.”

During the same interview, Saif also addressed famous Taimur-potty encounter that happened while he was interacting with a news channel and said that he was willing to make Taimur a part of his interview, given the depressing circumstances around the world. He said, “I genuinely did go looking for him. Normally I wouldn’t involve him in an interview of mine. I just thought given the circumstances, people could do with a bit of cheering up. People seem to be happy when they see him. I did go looking for him, but he genuinely was in the loo. Otherwise I’d have gotten him to give a kiss to the audience and have a ‘Hang in there guys’ kind of vibe. Something that we wouldn’t normally do so it wasn’t something that I felt was intrusive.” LOL!
