Pankaj Kapoor joins son Shahid Kapoor in Jersey remake
After working together in films like Shandaar and Mausam, the father-son duo Pankaj Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor are all set to share the screen space in the Hindi remake of Telugu sports drama ‘Jersey’. The film revolves around a heartwarming story of a dad-son bond over cricket and veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor will be seen playing a mentor-like figure to Shahid and will be a strong pillar of support to Shahid’s character during his unexpected comeback journey.
Sharing his excitement on becoming a part of the project, Pankaj told Mumbai Mirror, “I am very excited to be part of the film. Jersey is a very strong story and is driven by emotions. Working with Shahid has always been very interesting and I have always admired his ability to portray emotions beautifully.”
Director Gowtam Tinnanuri who helmed the original as well, is also thrilled to be working with such a prolific actor like Pankaj. He says, “Pankaj sir is such a great actor and we have all grown up seeing his work. To be able to direct him is a great honour and I know that he will fit perfectly for the role of a mentor in the movie.”

The shooting for the same is set to begin in December. “Shahid will start shooting from December and will continue the shoot till 30th. The team will then take a four – five day break for New Year and then resume shoot in Chandigarh for the rest of the month. There is going to be a lot of movement from the team’s side in and out of Chandigarh in the coming months,” said a source close to the development.
Apart from Shahid and Pankaj, the film will also feature Mrunal Thakur as the female lead.
