Lata Mangeshkar to be felicitated with Daughter of the Nation title on her 90th birthday
Known as the nightingale of India, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar is all set to celebrate her 90th birthday on 28th September. In order to honour the singer’s exceptional talent and her humongous contribution to Indian cinema, the government of India will be honouring her with the title of Daughter of the Nation this month. Renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi has penned a song specially for the occasion.
A source revealed, “Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji’s voice. She represents the collective voice of the Indian nation. Honouring her is to honour the daughter of the nation and that’s what we will officially designate her on her 90th birthday.”
Mangeshkar has been the voice behind some of the biggest and most iconic songs ever. The three time National Award winning songstress, who is known to keep a low profile, recently found herself in the midst of a controversy over her comments on the viral singing sensation Ranu Mondal. While talking about Mondal, whose video of singing outside a railway station went viral recently, the veteran singer said “If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate. But I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s or Rafi Saab’s or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last. Be original. By all means sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point the singer must seek and find his or her own song.”
Her comments did not go down well with netizens who felt she could have been more gracious with her words.
