It’s raining biopics in Bollywood! Here are 7 upcoming biopics to watch out for!

Biopics have always had a special place in Bollywood and more often than not they have proved to be sure shot box office successes. Case in point Sanju, Manikarnika, Padman, Neerja, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Dangal, MS Dhoni or this week’s release Super 30 amongst many others.

In 2019 too, this genre of filmmaking doesn’t seem to be taking a backseat as there are a horde of biopics which are either already in the making or will be shot in the coming months. So here’s our list of 7 upcoming biopics you definitely shouldn’t miss

  1. Chhappak

After the brilliant Raazi, Meghna Gulzar brings the story of acid attack victim Lakshmi with Deepika Padukone in the lead. The movie, which also stars Vikrant Massey, recently finished its shoot and will be releasing on 10th Jan 2020.

  1. 83’

Starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, 83 narrates the story of India’s incredible victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Directed by Kabir Khan, the movie also stars Deepika Padukone as Romi Dev along with other actors like Saqib Saleem, Hardy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Tahir Bhasin and many others.

  1. Shershah

Produced by Dharma Productions, Shershah is based on the true story of Kargil war hero, Vikram Batra. Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, the movie stars Sidharth Malhotra as Batra along with Kiara Advani.

  1. Saina Nehwal Biopic

This biopic on the life of the ace badminton player has been in the news for quite some time now. While initially Shraddha Kapoor was supposed to essay the title role, now Parineeti Chopra has stepped into her shoes prepping extensively to play the sports star. The movie is being directed by Amol Gupte.

  1. Sam Manekshaw Biopic

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the current heartthrob of the nation, Vicky Kaushal will be seen in the role of Sam Manekshaw, the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. Vicky looks pretty impressive as the soldier as the resemblance seems uncanny

  1. Gunjan Saxena Biopic

In the yet untitled biopic, young star Janhvi Kapoor will be seen playing the role of Gunjan Saxena, Indian Air Force’s first female combat pilot who actively took part in the Kargil War in 1999. Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor plays her father in the movie directed by Sharan Sharma.

Vicky Kaushal seems to love the biopic genre as he will also be seen as Sardar Udham Singh in the biopic directed by Shoojit Sircar. Sardar Udham Singh was a revolutionary who assassinated Michael O’ Dwyer, the British officer who was responsible for Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
