It’s Official: Taapsee Pannu to play women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj in latters biopic
After months of speculation, it has finally been confirmed that actor Taapsee Pannu will portray the role of Mithali Raj in the cricketer’s biopic. Today on the eve of Mithali Raj’s 37th birthday, Taapsee took to social media announced her association with the biopic – titled Shabaash Mithu.
The actor shared a couple of pictures of herself with Mithali Raj at her birthday celebrations and wrote, “On this birthday of yours, I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself onscreen with Shabaash Mithu. P.S – I am all prepared to learn the ‘cover drive.’ #HappyBirthdayCaptain.”

Shabaash Mithu will be directed by Rahul Dholakia, who has helmed films like Raees and Parzania.
Expressing her happiness to play the role and the pressure of stepping in her shoes, Taapsee said, “It’s truly an honour to play the role of India’s most successful captain where Women’s Cricket is concerned. Even though I have already started feeling the pressure of stepping in her shoes, I don’t think I want to trade this place with anyone else right now. She has always been brave and strong to back truth and her idols, and that is the connect I feel with her.”

On the work front, Taapsee was last seen along with Bhumi Pednekar in Saand ki Aankh, in which she played an elderly sharp shooter. She is currently prepping for Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad and will also be seen in Rashmi Rocket, biopic of an athlete Rashmi from Gujarat.
